I was utterly stunned today to learn that Nature (no less) recently published what I can only describe as misogynistic claptrap in the guise of a light-hearted throwaway piece on (ho ho) The Mysteries Of Women.

The 'story' can be found here, and a summary of some of the commentary it has provoked is here.

I'm actually pretty lost for words that in this day and age a journal of such standing would publish such plainly offensive material. Spectacularly, both the author of the piece and the editor of the section appear to have been quite aware of what nonsense it was, with the author tweeting "I WILL catch flak for this" and the editor remarking soon after publication "I'm amazed we haven't had any outraged comments".

Well guess what, guys, you're got your outrage. In what world is this acceptable?
